I only had the chance to paint for about an hour over the weekend. The two pieces above are the result - further attempts to capture the mood and atmosphere of the landscape of the west of Ireland.
I used old 10"x10" canvas that have several layers of acrylic build up, adding a nice layer of texture. The darker areas of water were blocked in first, siennas, oranges and ochres followed. Finally, overbrushing and rapid blending while the paint was still wet. The palette consisted of dioxane purple, cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, pale yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna and raw umber. This is a Manhattan Bridge piece I've re-worked several times in the last three years - almost completely overpainting what preceded it on each occasion, but maintaining the composition. Each time trying to further abstract the bridge and buildings - It's time to leave it be..
