The paintings above are part of a recently completed series landscape pieces newly listed on my site - inspired by the landscape of west Mayo and Galway. You can see the entire series here.
The final three pieces (I think) of this series. Water, weather and land in the west of Ireland.
Each painting is 10"x10" Acrylic on canvas.
I only had the chance to paint for about an hour over the weekend. The two pieces above are the result - further attempts to capture the mood and atmosphere of the landscape of the west of Ireland.
I used old 10"x10" canvas that have several layers of acrylic build up, adding a nice layer of texture. The darker areas of water were blocked in first, siennas, oranges and ochres followed. Finally, overbrushing and rapid blending while the paint was still wet.
The palette consisted of dioxane purple, cobalt blue, alizarin crimson, pale yellow, yellow ochre, burnt sienna and raw umber.

A new piece, finally finished after many re-workings. Another effort at interpreting the mood of west of Ireland landscape emptiness.
Lake edge storm.
30"x40" Acrylic on canvas.
Another square, multi-canvas take on the sodden landscape of the west of Ireland. Orange tinged grasses flank opaque, peat infused lakes. Ghost ridges from previous renditions of this scene add texture and some depth to the piece.
20"x20" Acrylic on canvas.
Six small landscape paintings.
4"x5" Acrylic on paper.
Further additions to a series of 5"x4" abstract landscape studies inspired by the west of Ireland. The six pieces below were painted at the same time, on the same page divided in to equal areas with masking tape.

From a recent trip to the west of Ireland -
I've spent a bit of time working on these small pieces, mostly trying to figure colours and compositions out for larger pieces - I'll add a couple of more examples soon. Comments and feedback welcome!
Acrylic on 12"x16" paper, 2014
A painting I have reworked several times, I think it's finally finished. Inspired by the landscape of Burgandy in France.
The underpainting was done with brushes, but most of what you see here was applied with palette knives.
Three recent paintings from the 'By Water" series. All 12"x12" acrylic on canvas.
Further adventures in painting water and land. All three are 18"x24" acrylic on canvas and don't have titles yet. I'll come up with something smart for them soon.
Daily (almost), updates from my sketchbook and easel. Feel free to comment and share.
